From the fuel pump to your food basket
How transport can affect prices, and why there is no simple one-to-one rule.
A chain of costs
Fuel can affect farming, processing and distribution. Weather, electricity, exchange rates, supply and retail decisions also influence food prices.
A scenario, not a forecast
A ten-percent fuel increase does not automatically cause a ten-percent grocery increase. Our tool lets you choose a hypothetical exposed share and pass-through.
Compare like with like
Use the same units, quantities, pack sizes and equivalent products when comparing baskets. Do not add the fuel scenario to food inflation automatically; that may double-count an effect.
Examples use LSL. No current market rates, fuel prices or CPI values are claimed. This is general education, not a personalised recommendation.
